If you’re like me then you get surprised with commercials online, probably a little more than you’re comfortable with. Well, that’s why we built SkipIt. SkipIt lets you decide when you want to skip commercials online wherever you see the SkipIt invitation. Plain and simple.

Skipping commercials online is surprisingly simple and I wanted to take you through the process. I love old school games that have withstood the test of time and have been updated over the years. A great example of this is Tetris. I play Tetris all of the time on Tetris Friends BUT it has commercials. Sometimes I’m so focused on the game that I just can’t wait to play the next level but they’re playing a commercial. Here’s how SkipIt allows you to Skip past commercials:

1. Go to www.tetrisfriends.com

2. Click on the Marathon Tetris game

3. Before the game even begins you’ll be presented with a commercial. Check out the orange highlight below where is says “Want To Skip This Ad?”. This is what the commercial looks like and what the SkipIt invitation looks like.

4. All you have to do is click the question or the SkipIt logo with your mouse to skip the ad.

a. If you have a SkipIt account and you’re logged in, you’ll skip the commercial right away. Otherwise you’ll have to log in and then the commercial will be skipped
b. If you don’t have a SkipIt account you can easily create one with a Facebook, Google+ or Twitter account

How easy is that? Pretty simple, huh?

We here at SkipIt like to win.  But we like to share too.  That’s why we created SkipIt in the first place – to give folks more control over their online experience with an innovative new service in the advertising industry.  We launched SkipIt at the right time, because there’s a movement afoot on Madison Avenue to make online ads as relevant and engaging as possible.  We’re consumers too!  We know that not everyone will like every ad – that’s just not possible.  But since advertisers essentially pay for all the content we consume online, we wanted to address consumer frustration with better advertising without hurting advertisers in the process.  They’re paying the bills, they should have a say too!

So, here’s how it works for advertisers:

  • When people click on the SkipIt invite and skip a video ad, that advertiser doesn’t pay for that skipped ad
  • The website that it played on (the publisher) gets paid by SkipIt, and then credits the advertiser for that skipped ad
  • Advertisers like it because their ad dollars are being used efficiently – they aren’t wasted on people that don’t have time, or just aren’t interested in watching video ads
The SkipIt Ecosystem

The SkipIt Ecosystem

SkipIt even covers other advertiser costs.  We will credit advertisers for their ad serving and ad operations costs for all video ads that run through the SpotXchange marketplace that were skipped.  Other ad skipping solutions out there either benefit the publisher or the advertiser, but not both like SkipIt does.

How else do we make things fair for advertisers?  We are working with handfuls of advertisers to design ways for consumers to earn free skips.  For example, soon, consumers will be able to go to SkipIt.com and interact with select advertiser offers in exchange for free skips in their SkipIt accounts.  Some folks will want to pay for skips, some will want to earn free skips, and there will soon be plenty of ways to earn free skips.  Either way, we want to ensure advertisers aren’t paying when people skip their video ads.

SkipIt is the fairest ad skipping solution on the market.  Everyone wins in some way.  Your favorite websites get to keep creating good content and offer you the choice to skip.  Advertisers don’t pay for skipped ads and will soon have the choice of interacting with consumers that WANT to hear from them.  And most importantly, YOU, the consumer, have more control online.   ‘Bout time.

Stay tuned as SkipIt becomes THE solution for bypassing online video ads.  We’ll continue to work hard for you, publishers and advertisers in the meantime.

Skip It good.

Isn’t it cool when you click the Facebook Like button and Facebook already knows who you are? Ever wonder how Facebook knows that? Well, chances are you clicked a little box when you signed into Facebook that says “Keep Me Logged In”. That means even though you might shut down your web browser from time to time, the next time you go to Facebook or click the like button you don’t have to sign into Facebook again. Well, SkipIt has a “Keep Me Signed In” feature, just like Facebook. Sweet!

What’s the advantage to staying signed in to SkipIt?

Staying signed in allows you to skip ads with one click of the mouse. Because when you’re already signed into SkipIt, we already know who you are. Plus when you go to your SkipIt My Account page you’ll already be logged in and have quick access to your SkipIt My Account Dashboard.

Here’s what the “Keep Me Signed” in option looks like:

When you go to the www.SkipIt.com Login Page:

www.skipit.com | Keep Me Signed in

www.skipit.com | Keep Me Signed in

When you’re viewing the SkipIt invitation:

What happens if you don’t stay signed in?

So, being signed in all of the time doesn’t work well for you? No problem. There are a couple of differences to consider:

  • The first difference is that when you see the SkipIt invitation and click it to skip ads you’ll have to log in to let us know who you are.
  • The second difference is that when you browse to your SkipIt My Account Page you’ll have to login to view your My Account Dashboard

These differences may not be a big deal to you but you should think about it. Not being signed in is like having to log into Facebook every time you Like something. You might find that to be very inconvenient.
