If you haven’t noticed, we here at SkipIt are big fans of saving time and letting you take control of your online lives. So much so that we would like totake time to honor fellow inventors, theorists, dreamers, record-breakers  etc… that have changed the world through their desire to skip things.

In this first installment “SkipIt Pioneers”, we’d like to pay homage to one of the most well known skipping pioneers out there – Albert Einstein. Once an above-average IQ patent clerk, Einstein went on to postulate some of the most radical and game changing physical theories known to man.

One of his most famous postulations was that wormholes (or Einstein-Rosen Bridges) exist throughout the universe and allow matter to skip long distances in space instantaneously. The theory also states that if one were to utilize such wormholes, they would literally travel through time.

While our understanding of skipping through physical space and time is still limited, we have managed to apply this theory to SkipIt and the Internet universe. To Illustrate:

Normally, to get from a website (point a) to content (point b), you must travel along the treacherous “Path of Advertisements”. Like space, the journey can be long, dull, and potentially and full of obstacles that may impede your journey.  However, with SkipIt, you can create your own “cyber-wormhole” at the click of a button and access your video content immediately, almost like you are traveling through time.

So, without further adieu, we’d like to tips our hats once more to Einstein, one of the original Skipping Pioneers! SkipIt…SkipIt Good!

Have you ever been presented with a video ad that doesn’t interest you?  Have you ever needed to get to your content right away? Do you want to skip ads and have control over you online experience? If you answered “Yes” to any of these, then SkipIt can help!

SkipIt is working with sports, news, entertainment and all types of websites every day to bring SkipIt to the place you like to hang out the most of the web. If you visit a website a lot but they currently don’t offer the ability to skip video ads with SkipIt, just let us know where you want to skip video ads.

There’s a place on the SkipIt.com home page where you can tell us which sites should offer SkipIt. Or you can email you suggestions to help@skipit.com or submit a request at our Help Center. As soon as we get your suggestions we’ll give the site a call and help them integrate so you’ll be able to skip the video ads you choose there, too.

Isn’t it cool when you click the Facebook Like button and Facebook already knows who you are? Ever wonder how Facebook knows that? Well, chances are you clicked a little box when you signed into Facebook that says “Keep Me Logged In”. That means even though you might shut down your web browser from time to time, the next time you go to Facebook or click the like button you don’t have to sign into Facebook again. Well, SkipIt has a “Keep Me Signed In” feature, just like Facebook. Sweet!

What’s the advantage to staying signed in to SkipIt?

Staying signed in allows you to skip ads with one click of the mouse. Because when you’re already signed into SkipIt, we already know who you are. Plus when you go to your SkipIt My Account page you’ll already be logged in and have quick access to your SkipIt My Account Dashboard.

Here’s what the “Keep Me Signed” in option looks like:

When you go to the www.SkipIt.com Login Page:

www.skipit.com | Keep Me Signed in

When you’re viewing the SkipIt invitation:

What happens if you don’t stay signed in?

So, being signed in all of the time doesn’t work well for you? No problem. There are a couple of differences to consider:

  • The first difference is that when you see the SkipIt invitation and click it to skip ads you’ll have to log in to let us know who you are.
  • The second difference is that when you browse to your SkipIt My Account Page you’ll have to login to view your My Account Dashboard

These differences may not be a big deal to you but you should think about it. Not being signed in is like having to log into Facebook every time you Like something. You might find that to be very inconvenient.

So who was behind the concept of letting consumers control their online experience by skipping video ads when they want to?

Would you believe it’s a video advertising marketplace?    What the what?

SkipIt was created to address high abandonment rates in onlinve video advertising.  Essentially people are bailing on video ads because they don’t have time or patience to watch the ad before they get to their content.  Some folks don’t mind watching ads, some do.  That’s why SkipIt gives folks a choice.

Read more here about how SkipIt came to be, why SpotXchange launched SkipIt, and how a video advertising company led the way to give consumers more choice online.  This letter is from the CEO of SpotXchange, the company that launched SkipIt.   He explains to advertisers and publishers why skippable ads are needed.
